Since the launch, a million websites are using this plugin for integrating Google Analytics to their WordPress blog. MonsterInsights comes with a lot of advanced tracking features. Plus, the team is working hard to bring new features!
Anyway, in this post, we are going to explain one of their popular features — the author tracking. If you want to set up author tracking with MonsterInsights, this guide will probably help you!

Is It Available In The Free Version? Is It Available In The Free Version?
MonsterInsights is a freemium WordPress plugin. There’s a lite version available in the WordPress plugins repository with more than 2 million active installs.
The free version is free for a lifetime. But, it got some limitations in the features. The advanced features like author tracking, forms tracking, eCommerce tracking are not available in the free version.
Anyway, for more powerful features and support, you might want to consider upgrading the plan to premium. Hence, the author tracking feature is not available in the free version.

How To Set Up Author Tracking With MonsterInsights? How To Set Up Author Tracking With MonsterInsights?
The first thing you need to do is install the MonsterInsights premium plugin on your blog. Once you got purchased the plugin, you can log in to your MonsterInsights account, download the plugin files.
Now, log in to your WordPress dashboard, go to add new plugins section, upload the plugin files there. Once you got installed the plugin, make sure that you have activated it.
After successful activation, paste the license key in the plugin settings. You can retrieve the key from your MonsterInsights account. The key will help you to get automatic updates for unlocking the premium features, etc…
Plus, a valid license key is essential for getting support from the author team.
Anyway, after activation, sync the plugin with your Google Analytics property. You will see the stats right in your WordPress admin area after a short time.
Under the MonsterInsights settings, you could see some settings called Addons. Install and activate the Dimensions addon.
Go to the tracking section, and there you can see the custom dimension settings.
By default, you don’t have any custom dimensions. We need to create them manually. So, click on the add new custom dimension button.
You will see a page something like this.
From that page, choose the author from the dropdown. You can skip the custom dimension ID part. Now, save the changes. The next thing we need to do is, add custom dimensions for author tracking in our Google Analytics property.
For that, log in to your Google Analytics account, go to your property.
You will be redirected to the dashboard of the property. From there, go to the admin panel. You could see the custom dimensions settings from that page.
Click on the add new custom dimension button from the page.
It will show you a form with the name field. In the name field, set it as Author. Click on create. You can create as many dimensions as you want.
Each time, they will give you a custom ID. For example, in our case, the dimension ID is 2.
Get back to the MonsterInsights settings, custom dimensions, and author dimension. Paste the dimension ID we collected from the Google Analytics account there.
Again save the changes. Next and last step we need to do is, add a custom report in our Google Analytics property. Under the Customization settings, you can see Custom Reports.
See the above reference image and configure the report just like it. Give a title for your report, and define metric groups under the report content.
And from the Dimension drill down, add Author. You are done! The page will now show every author’s reports.
You could see the page views receiving for each author also the bounce rate. If you want a more detailed report, choose Author as the secondary dimension.
Now, the page will show you top-performing posts with the author’s name, page views, unique views, average time on page, etc…
While you have a multi-author blog, this is an essential step for easy tracking your author’s performance.
