NOTE: I have installed WordPress using Namecheap hosting in this Tutorial. However, the procedure for installing WordPress in other hosting services like Bluehost, GreenGeeks, HostGator, GoDaddy, etc., are similar.
Steps to install WordPress on Namecheap
Let’s see the step-by-step instructions for installing WordPress on Namecheap WordPress hosting.
Are you looking for a simple way to install WordPress on your Namecheap hosting plan? In this post, we will show you a step-by-step guide for it.
Total Time: 10 minutes
Log In To Your Namecheap cPanel Account.
The first thing you will have to do is log in to your cPanel account. When you purchased a hosting plan through Namecheap, you would have received an email from Namecheap with your cPanel account credentials. Sometimes, it will land in your spam folder, too. So you have the credentials now.
Let’s say you have a domain name associated with your Namecheap hosting plan – mydomain.com. Your cPanel can be accessed by mydomain.com/cpanel.
If you face any issues while accessing the cPanel, you can log in to your Namecheap account and go to the website cPanel from your dashboard. Thankfully, the system won’t ask for the cPanel credentials when you follow this method.
Open Softaculous Installer
Namecheap cPanel contains a Softaculous apps installer. Scroll down the cPanel Homepage to find the installer, which will help you install WordPress and many other platforms like Joomla, AbanteCart, PrestaShop, etc.
Choose WordPress CMS
Click the WordPress icon, which you see in the Softaculous Apps installer section.
Install WordPress
The page will show you all the required information, like the demo, features, ratings, reviews, etc. Finally, click the Install Now button.
Choose the HTTP Protocol
On the installation page, you will find a list of sections to be filled out. The first one is the Software setup section.
Here, you will choose the protocol, which is generally HTTP:// or HTTPS://. By default, you will find the HTTP:// selected. You will be able to choose HTTPS:// only if you have an SSL for your site. (If you don’t have an SSL, you can find cheap SSL providers from the most trusted CAs).
Thankfully, most WordPress hosting companies will give you free SSL certificates for their clients. Namecheap got that feature too. So, using HTTPS is recommended. Google is also considering SSL as a ranking factor.
Choose the Domain
Next, choose a domain for which you want to install the WordPress CMS.
Choose the Directory to install (If required)
If you need to install WordPress on any directory, add the directory name in the In Directory field.
Choose a Site Title
Enter the site title and tagline in the Site Name and Description fields. We can always edit it later. For example, if you check our website, our site title is BlogHeist. And our tagline is Learn To Make Money Online Through Blogging. You can edit this later by logging in to your WordPress admin area.
Set Login Credentials
You will have to set up the login details for the admin account — a username and a password. Then, you must create a strong password using the password generator (represented by a key). Or you can also enter a strong password yourself.
Complete Installation
Now, you will be offered to install a plugin named Loginizer. This is a security plugin, and I recommend installing this because this will help you keep your WordPress site safe from hackers.
To install this, click the checkbox below and enter the email id where you want to send your installation details. You must keep this mail safe, as it contains your website details. Finally, click the Install button.
You have successfully installed WordPress CMS on your Namecheap hosting plan in a minute!! You can now access your WordPress website using the URL format mydomain.com and the admin area by mydomain.com/wp-admin.

How To Install WordPress Manually/ FTP?
Installing manually is not simple as the one-click installer method. It will take some time, and you need to do more with your web hosting control panel. For installing WordPress manually, we will be doing several tasks:
- Downloading WordPress to your computer
- Extracting it
- Uploading the files to the server
- Creating a MySQL database
- Completing the configuration
The first thing you need to do is, download WordPress from the official repository.
Once you have downloaded the software to your local computer, extract the file using any compression software like WinRAR.
You will see all the subfolders and files then.
Now, you need to upload these files to your server. To do that, we can rely on an FTP client like FileZilla. You will need to download FileZilla if you haven’t already.
Using your FTP account credentials, log in to your server. If you don’t have an FTP account associated with your cPanel, you can create one with the hosting support team’s help.
Once you have logged in to your web server, upload the folders and files to your home directory. It will take several minutes to complete the file upload.
Once you have uploaded the files to your server, create a MySQL database. You can do it from your website’s cPanel.
Create a database.
Once you have created a MySQL database, create a user and assign the user to the database. You can do this thing from the same screen. Now, you need to complete the WordPress installation.
Since we have already uploaded the files, we do not need to do anything else. All we need to do is, visit the website and configure it. Visit your website by entering the domain name. It can be example.com or https://www.example.com.
You will see the WordPress installation screen there.
From there, you need to choose your website’s language. We also need to enter our database details to establish a connection between WordPress and the MySQL server. Finally, click on the Let’s go button.
You do not need to edit any files to establish the database connection. You can do it from the front end.
We need to enter the
- Database name
- Username
- Password
- Hostname
- Table Prefix
There. Once you have entered those, submit the data.
Now, you need to run the installation.
They will ask for your basic details like
- Website title
- Username
- Password
- Email address
Now, you have successfully installed WordPress on the site.
You can log in to the site using the username and password you provided during installation. And To access the WordPress dashboard, open the website URL on your browser, and add /wp-admin at the end of the URL.
You can manage your website from there.
How To Install WordPress On a Subdomain?
Once you have created a subdomain through the cPanel, the server will create a dedicated directory for the domain. That’s the root of the subdomain. Next, you need to upload the files to that specific folder. For example, if you plan to install WordPress manually, upload the core files to that folder.
Now, you can enter the subdomain into your browser and install WordPress manually. On the other hand, if you are using the softaculous installer for installing WordPress on the site, choose the subdomain from the dropdown.
This is how you can install WordPress on a subdomain.
What Is The Best Way To Install WordPress?
If your web hosting provider offers you Softaculous or any other one-click WordPress installers, that is the best way to install WordPress on your server. You do not need to manually install WordPress when using a managed WordPress hosting like Kinsta or WP Engine.
When you have the one-click WordPress installer, you do not need to download WordPress manually to your computer; create a MySQL database. This is the best way to install WordPress on a server.
On the other hand, if you prefer manual installation, you need to create a MySQL database through the website hosting cPanel, download WordPress, extract the files, upload it to your server, and configure everything manually.
As you know, this will take a lot of time and is not recommended for beginners.
Thankfully, most web hosting companies come with this one-click installer feature.
Can You Create a WordPress Website Without a Hosting?
Yes and no.
Suppose you want to create a WordPress website for testing new codes/ themes or plugins. In that case, you can create a staging environment using any popular software like Local by Flywheel or DevKinsta, developed by Kinsta. When you do this, you do not need to buy a hosting plan.
The software will save all the website files on your computer. But only you can visit the website and manage it. You can’t rank content on search engines and gain website visitors.
On the other hand, if you need real website visitors, conversions, and some affiliate/ display ad revenue, you need to buy web hosting from a web hosting provider like Namecheap.
There are more web hosting providers available like:
On top of hosting, you also need a domain name for starting a WordPress blog.
