Affiliate Link Tracking
Using affiliate marketing for monetization?
In most blogging niches, it is better than Google AdSense or any other display ads. Well, if you are using affiliate links in your blog, you might use some kind of plugin like ThirstyAffiliates to manage all your links. It is one of the best WordPress plugins for affiliate marketers, and we also use it on all our projects.
For basic link tracking, ThirstyAffiliates got a stats report. It will show you how many clicks your website has in a day for affiliate links. As I said, totally basic.
But, MonsterInsights offers more advanced affiliate link tracking.

All you need to do is, enter your affiliate link prefix in the MonsterInsights settings, label it, and save the settings.
Wait. What’s a prefix?
Here’s a live example. I have already said that we are using ThirstyAffiliates for link management. When we need to recommend Bluehost hosting to someone, the link will look like this – https://blogheist.com/r/bluehost.
Something like – domain/prefix/affiliate.
Here, you know our domain, that’s blogheist.com. We configured our prefix as /r/, and the affiliate network is Bluehost. Do the same with your configuration.
You won’t be able to track your affiliate links without an affiliate plugin. From the publisher’s report, you will see the performance reports.
You might want to log in to your Google Analytics property and check the events for a more detailed report.
Recommended feature for all affiliate marketers.

Under the MonsterInsights settings, you can see some settings called Addons. Install and activate the Dimensions addon.
Go to the tracking section, where you can see the custom dimension settings.
By default, you don’t have any custom dimensions. We need to create them manually. So, click on the add new custom dimension button.

You will see a page something like this.
From that page, choose the author from the dropdown. You can skip the custom dimension ID part. Now, save the changes. The next thing we need to do is, add custom dimensions for author tracking in our Google Analytics property.
To log in to your Google Analytics account, go to your property.
You will be redirected to the dashboard of the property. From there, go to the admin panel. You can see the custom dimensions settings on that page.
Click on the add new custom dimension button from the page.
It will show you a form with the name field. In the name field, set it as Author. Click on create. You can create as many dimensions as you want.
Each time, they will give you a custom ID. For example, in our case, the dimension ID is 2.
Get back to the MonsterInsights settings, custom dimensions, and author dimensions. Paste the dimension ID we collected from the Google Analytics account there.

See the above reference image and configure the report just like it. Give a title for your report, and define metric groups under the report content.
And from the Dimension drill down, add Author. You are done! The page will now show every author’s reports.
You could see the page views received for each author also the bounce rate. If you want a more detailed report, choose Author as the secondary dimension.
Now, the page will show you top-performing posts with the author’s name, page views, unique views, average time on the page, etc…
While you have a multi-author blog, this is an essential step for easily tracking your author’s performance.
WooCommerce Tracking
Self-hosted WordPress is more manageable and better than Shopify. With plugins like WooCommerce, we can add a store section to our WordPress blog. Also, through the shop, you can sell physical or digital products. Want to take your WordPress blog to the next level?
Welcome to the enhanced WooCommerce/ eCommerce tracking!
You can track transactions from your membership website or online store. Once you have enabled it and configured the eCommerce tracking, you can see every report in your MonsterInsights insights!

Reports like

Etc…
This would help you understand your store, work on it, and improve it.
Forms Tracking
Contact forms are one of the easy ways to get in touch with your website visitors. Especially if you are offering some service.
There are so many WordPress plugins available for creating forms inside our blog. Our recommended plugins are WPForms and Formidable Forms. Using any plugin, we can embed contact forms on our page, post, or even custom post type.
But do you know how many folks leave your contact page without filling out the form or sending a message? By visiting the Google Analytics stats of the contact page, you can see the hits you got. But, there is no way to track form conversions in the traditional method.
Here, MonsterInsights is going to introduce a feature called Forms tracking. From the MonsterInsights settings, you can enable this setting.
The plugin will automatically figure out every form plugin active on your website. It’s an excellent feature. It will show you every hit, impression, and conversion in the MonsterInsights reports section.

Ads Tracking
As I mentioned above, you might use Google AdSense to monetize your blog. With the MonsterInsights ads tracking feature, you can see everything related to your display ads.
From the settings, enable Google AdSense ads tracking.
Also, you might want to integrate your AdSense account with your Analytics property. That’s pretty simple. Once you have done that, you can see the stats in your publisher reports section.
Just like the Google AdSense dashboard or app, you will see
- Impressions.
- Clicks.
- CTR.
- CPC.
- RPM.
- Earnings.
Etc…
Better for publishers who rely on Google AdSense income.
File Download Tracking
Running a file download/ digital download website?
If you are, you might want to see how many times a file is downloaded, the top-performing files, etc… The WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads plugin will take care of the online shop and file downloading process. Also, they will show you a rough download stat.

Want something more accurate?
Then say hello to the MonsterInsights file download tracking! Once you enable the file download tracking on your blog, the plugin will track every new file download. Also, you can see them in your insights section – including the top-performing downloads.
To start tracking File Downloads on your site, head over to Insights, Settings, you can see all the available tracking features. Just choose file download tracking from the list.
We recommend you track the downloads as an event. Also, you will see an option to track custom file extensions. Add/ remove file extensions, and save the changes.
You have successfully enabled file download tracking on your WordPress website!
Now, it is time to see the reports.
Go to Insights, Reports, and Publisher Reports. Scroll down on the page and see the file download reports.
If you need a more detailed report, you might want to log in to your Google Analytics property and track everything from there. Under the reports of the events, choose Behavior, events.

Click on the Top Events and download. You can get a more detailed report from there.
Remember, when we set up file downloads tracking on your WordPress blog, we set the tracking as events. That’s why the plugin tracks the file downloads as the download event.
You can also track the same in real time.
Just choose the event category as – download, and you are good to go!
Share Google Analytics Stats with Others
After authenticating the Google Analytics property with MonsterInsights, you are good to go. The premium plan comes with a feature called Email Summaries. Go to Advanced Settings, where you can see the Email Summaries configuration.
Enter the email address you need to get the reports and add them. After successfully adding the email address, MonsterInsights will send you weekly reports containing essential stats. You can add up to five email addresses in the field.
On top of that, you will be able to customize the header and footer of the report.
While you are working with a client and need to send them the weekly performance reports, this is the best option.
Well, if you need to use the PDF Export feature, that’s cool, too. We recommend using the PDF Export feature when you don’t want to add external email addresses and keep a copy of your stats offline. Within minutes, you can generate a PDF file containing all the stats.
Go to the Insights section and choose the report you need to export. As of now, the premium version will support pieces like:
Overview
Publishers
Search Console
eCommerce
Forms
For this tutorial, we will be showing you how to export the Overview report. So, go to the section, and you will see a button called Export PDF Report.
Just click on the button to export the report as a PDF file. You can also select a custom date range from the page.
A PDF file will be downloaded to your system. And you can share the data with a third party without giving them access to your Google Analytics account.

Host gtag.js Locally and Boost the Website’s Speed
Nobody likes a slow website and requesting external files such as Google Fonts, images, or other static files can affect your website’s speed. And as you know, speed is essential in website ranking and conversions.
So you can host gtag.js locally by pasting the tracking code on the MonsterInsights settings page or opening the integration prompt manually.
Once you have verified the Google Analytics property with MonsterInsights, you can start using the features.
Go to the add-ons section, and install and activate the performance add-on. The developer team already added gtag.js local hosting to the add-on. By using this feature, anyone who uses MonsterInsights can host their gtag.js file locally.
Go to the performance section, and enable the gtag.js local hosting feature.
Once you have done that, save the update. From now on, MonsterInsights will update the gtag.js file every 24 hours. You can also fetch and update the local gtag.js file manually if you want.

You could have updated your privacy policy page and added a cookie consent box inside your blog to provide better information about how you handle the user’s data.
For the cookie consent box, you could use the Cookie Notice plugin. This is a free WordPress plugin that will give you complete control. After configuring the plugin on your site, you can show the consent box on the website’s front end.
As you can see in the image, you can let website visitors know that you are using cookies to improve your business/ website traffic. The Cookie Notice plugin is 100% customizable.
