How Affiliate Marketing Works

- Merchant – The Merchant is a creator or seller of that product who wants to sell his or her creations with the help of affiliate marketing. And he is ready to give the affiliate a percentage of the commission.
- Affiliate – An affiliate is a person that makes a sale.
- Customer – A customer is one who bought the product from an affiliate. He is most important in this affiliate network.
- Affiliate Network – Affiliate Network is a third party that connects merchants and affiliates. This network mainly handles technical aspects of an affiliate network, like giving an affiliate ID, finding out how much sale an affiliate has made, etc.
Example – John has registered himself in an affiliate program – Amazon Associates. He then shares a link for an Apple MacBook with his sister Monica. Monica bought that MacBook from John’s association, and hence John gets a 5% commission as an affiliate.
She bought MacBook worth $1,000, so John gets $50 as a commission.
Now from the above example –
- Merchant is Apple
- John is Affiliate
- Monica is Customer
- Lastly, Amazon is an Affiliate Network.

Once you have decided on your niche, you can list the affiliate programs in that industry. Then you can just enroll in them and link your bank account or PayPal, so money would be credited to your bank whenever you make a sale.
3. Create Ways for Promotion
Now, it’s time to create promotion ways; how would you sell those things? You need some marketing channels. There are various ways to promote your affiliate product and service.
There are various ways to promote your affiliate products –
- Creating a Blogging Website
- Creating a YouTube channel
- Creating accounts on Social Media like Instagram and Facebook
- Directly reaching through Email and Newsletters
- Announcing offers and Giveaways
- Public platforms like – Quora.com, Twitter.com, Medium.com, etc.
- Collaborations, etc.
4. Create Trustable Content
Now it’s time to create content, so once you are clear with your niche, the type of product you want to sell, and the platform you will sell. Then creating content becomes easy; however, if you aren’t clear, you can also start, and you’ll get clarity by doing things.
5. Build Your Audience
This is the last step, which is building your audience. Once people start watching your content and trusting you, they will buy the product you recommend. In this way, you will earn good passive income from Affiliate marketing.
Things to Keep in Mind Before Joining an Affiliate Program
Before starting your Affiliate Niche, you must remember certain things and choose an affiliate program you’ll promote on your blog. Below are a few basic yet essential things to consider to check before joining any Affiliate Program.
1. The Payout Method
The Payout Method is a crucial factor to look for before participating in any Affiliate Program and promoting their products. You must ensure you receive your earnings & commission through any company to which you have access. You can receive money through it quickly, such as PayPal, Payoneer, etc.
- Payoneer is a payment processer that is available globally
- You can pay and get paid easily on international currencies just like local transactions
- Signup for Payoneer today and get a $25 sign up bonus (offer ends soon!)
- Bonus credited when you load $1000 in your Payoneer account
2. Product Reputation
Also, ensure that you’re promoting a product or a service that has good reviews & is worth promoting because promoting the wrong products won’t help you make any cent. You’ll waste your time without taking any benefits from your efforts.
3. Payout Commission
Another thing to consider is the amount you’ll receive/earn when you successfully refer a customer. Every company offers various payouts for each sale or referral, so it’s also essential to check the Payout Amount you’ll earn for each CPA, also known as Cost Per Action.

4. In-House Affiliate Program or Affiliate Network
Also, many companies use third-party Affiliate Networks to manage all Affiliate Marketing campaigns, such as HostGator, a hosting company that uses Impact radius for its Affiliate Program. Hence, you must know which network is being used.
5. Merchant Support
This is not important, but it’s worth sharing here that Merchant Support is vital in having a good relationship between you and the Merchant or the company you’re promoting products or services for. Reach out to the company through Live Chatting or Email and test their Customer Care Service.
6. Terms & Conditions
Last but not least. You always need to read the T&Cs of each & every Affiliate Network or Program before you sign up for their Program because breaking the T&Cs of any company will result in your account termination no matter how many users you have referred or how much earning you have made with them.
How to Join any Affiliate Program or Network?
In this example, we’ll sign up for Payoneer Affiliate Program and get our unique tracking links & other banners from our account to share on our blog. So how it will work, we’ll learn here.
Step 1: Go to Payoneer.com/affiliate-program.
Step 2: Click the Start Earning Now button to access the Affiliate Signup page.
Step 3: Enter all the required details on the SignUp page, including the methods & techniques that you’ll use to promote Payoneer. Please note that you must provide the correct information to approve your account; otherwise, your application will be rejected.
Step 4: Give a few days so that your application is reviewed by the Affiliate Team, and once your application is reviewed and accepted, you’ll receive an email from Payoneer, and from that point, you’ll be able to log into your Affiliate Account.
Step 5: Now log into your Affiliate Account using your username and password and get the tracking link from there to share it with your audience either on your blog, social media sites, or your Youtube channel, etc.
Now, anyone who signs up with Payoneer through your link and is confirmed by Payoneer will earn up to $25 for the first 10 customers.
